Mood-lites are Green!   •   Benefits   •   Why not CFL's   •   Links & Aricles

Did you know? Mood-lites are Green!

25 watts means they use less energy.

Environmentally Friendly lighting

If everyone swapped out one 25 watt Mood-lite for a regular 75 watt light bulb:

  • The energy saved would be enough to power a city of 1.5 million people?*
  • It would be the equivalent of taking 1.3 million cars off the road?*
  • It would raise millions of dollars for an organization that works to combat the #1 leading cause of disability worldwide - depression?

Ask yourself this:

Do you REALLY need all that bright, white light?  Mood-lites aren't for reading?  but what about while taking a bath?  Listening to music?  Watching TV?  Visiting with friends?

Eating a romantic dinner? Brighter and whiter isn't always better (Mood-lites hide those flaws, too)!

What makes Mood-lites a Green Choice?

Benefits: • Generate lower electricity bills than regular 75 watts  •  Saves you money!  •  When you use lower wattage bulbs you reduce mercury emissions from burning coal that produces harmful greenhouse gases.

Why aren't you making Mood-lites in those new CFL's?

Great question! Instead of wasting money, time and energy developing a product that we think is just as harmful (if not more) than incandescent light bulbs, we are putting our resources towards development of an LED Mood-lite. LED is the 'green' lighting of the future, and what we see as much more environmentally friendly. When the LED Mood-lite is launched, it is sure to be an environment and energy winner all the way around!

Did you know?

  • The new, popular CFL's (those swirly bulbs) contain 5 milligrams of Mercury in each bulb?
  • Using the Maine Safety Standard, it would take 16,667 cubic meters of air to safely contain all of the Mercury in a single CFL?
  • The new goal is to replace 4 billion light bulbs with the Mercury containing CFL's. CFL's need to be disposed of via hazardous waste recycling. How will we safely contain all that mercury?
  • Our country and world has a significant water issue, and it is getting worse and we are creating additional solid mercury waste materials that seep directly into that supply. What is the difference between mercury vapor and solid mercury waste?
  • CFL's take 5x the energy to make than incandescent bulbs?  So the energy savings made by lasting longer is almost a wash by the amount taken to create?
  • We do not know the long term effects of exposure to CFL's.  Shouldn't we study them more before making a significant long-term market shift? There is a European push to study such effects and they have shown links to migraines and a negative effect on pets due to the sound frequency.

We are not saying incandescents are the perfect answer, we just are not convinced that CFL's are, either.  So instead of using our energy on CFL's, we are working hard on our new green LED!

Our Greenest, Healthiest Tip?

Use lower wattage whenever possible (brighter isn't always better), and be sure to turn lights off when not in use.
